What would you say?

When Trevor and I were doing our pre-marital counseling, we had to answer some questions to each other regarding out spiritual beliefs. One of the questions was, “If God were to ask you right now why He should let you into heaven, what would your answer be?”

I didn’t have an answer. At that point, I didn’t even know if I would have the chance to stand at those mighty gates and state my case, so I left my paper blank. I wasn’t truly living for Christ so what could I say? Trevor on the other hand without realizing it made a very profound statement. He simply said,

“I know your son.”

Though I try to walk Your path
I may stagger and I may sway
I will pick myself back up
And keep You in my sights each day

I will laugh and I will cry
I will pray and I will sin
I will scream some words out loud
And I will keep some feelings in

I will spread the news of Christ
My savoir from sin
And throughout my earthly life
There will be a battle from within

And on that very day
When I come to meet my fate
As I stand before our God
At Heaven's mighty gates

And the Lord asks
“Why my child- should I let you in?”
I will say, “Lord I'm not perfect,
And I know that I have sinned-

Some battles have been lost,
And some battles have been won
All I can truely say is
Lord, I know your son.”

That is my new favourite poem of all time!

I like it so much I want to send it to eight friends on my email list with a threatening note that they each send it to eight friends or they will have bad luck. Of course I know they wouldn't have bad luck, but that's just how much I like the poem.
